Berlin Zine! + 2013 Project

I posted about my Berlin zines a while back (they're still not really zines) and I am still not done making them. It took me ages to cut all 160 sheets of paper then folding, gluing, pressing and finally sewing. I have 4 of them done in time for the Bristol Artists Book Event this weekend, I will be there on Saturday with UCLan Drawing and Image Making! Dimensions for the book: 18 x 16 cm, roughly 1 inch in thickness (I like to mix my units.) It's a double sewn accordion book with 44 pages on each side, so 88 pages total (lucky number.) The book contains photographs that I have taken during my trip in Berlin and most of the photos were taken whilst being lost in the city. They kept telling us that our destination is just around the corner but it never was just around the corner and more like an extra hour walk. One side contains touristy attractions and buildings, the other side contains their street art, which is my favorite side. You can just about see the sewn thread here. You can also use it as a slinky. It's an edition of 10 and this is 8/10. I'll be selling these for £20 each. ----------------------------------------------------- I submitted my Berlin zine for Cafe Royal's 2013 Project and was accepted! The private view was on April 16th at the Hanover Project Space. The show will be on until May 8th. I managed to take two photos during the private view, there are better photos on CR's website. Drawings. Bookshelf containing great books/publications. I still haven't managed to go through all the books yet. You can see my book on the bottom row, sixth one from the left. The funny thing is, my book got rubber banded, haha, or else it would've slinky-ed down the shelf. Really makes me question if I should have packaged/presented it in a different way. I have to admit that's my weakness some times...

Secrets 1/12

New book, called Secrets 1/12, it's an accordion book with illegible calligraphy cut out with black silk thread paper. It contains my deep inner secrets/turmoils from childhood, it's almost as if I'm revealing myself yet unwilling to since most of the secrets are not readable. Details. Some more from the side.

Guild Hall OPEN Exhibition!

Here are some photos from our OPEN exhibition in the Preston Guild Hall, put up by the MA students at UCLAN. Panorama image of the exhibition. Click on the image for a larger view.

My work in the show. 3 layers of lithographic prints. Since a lot of my work deals with the past and memories and cultural identity, this work is similar in that concept. It deals with having the courage to look into my past through limit constraints. First layer is laser cut with white ink on white paper. Second layer is just black ink. Third layer is black ink on interleaf paper. Close ups. You see the white on white. ------------ Some of the other works in the show. Steph Fletcher. Sam Cookson. Tao Lashley-Burnley. Chris Clark. Front: Charlotte Calland. Left: Pete Daviz. Back wall: Brian Mountford. Pete Daviz. Rachel Pursglove. Mat Birchall. Check out our amazing OPEN sign that was still lit even after it was unplugged. Private view. For more pictures of our private view. Go to our Tumblr for more images and updates on future events at the Guild Hall space.
